EXHAUST MANIFOLD AND FUNNEL CLEANING
SERVICE
We carry out our work with the highest level of safety without interfering with normal on-board activities, including on operational ships, to reduce atmospheric emissions and eliminate fire risk.
APPLICABLE SECTORS
Over a decade’s experience and specialisation, confirmed by a patented system for cleaning exhaust lines in the maritime sector, including on operational vessels.
Ships’ exhaust fumes are a significant source of air pollution; sulphur oxide emissions deriving from the fuel used to power the main engines can cause acid rain, which damages crops, forests and aquatic species, also contributing to the acidification of the oceans, as well as generating fine particulate matter. As of 1 January 2020, new international regulations came into force limiting the emission of sulphur into the atmosphere, reducing the percentage of sulphur in maritime fuels from 3.5% to 0.5%. In general, the shipping industry, in order to avoid the use of more refined fuels, which are less polluting but much more expensive, has installed scrubbers to comply with the new limits laid out by the regulations and has continued using fuel oil. Implementation of this technology has allowed the new limits to be met, with resulting environmental benefits, but it has caused accelerated degradation of the materials the exhaust systems are constructed of.
As a matter of fact, the way that scrubbers work causes a reaction in the materials, leading to premature degradation, and obliging owners to perform extraordinary maintenance operations. Another major issue is the formation of unburned particulate matter, which is deposited on the inside of exhaust lines during the normal combustion process. As the level of build-up increases, this material detaches and is subsequently released into the environment through the funnels. This particulate matter has a significant environmental impact and is a source of potential harm to both the ship and its crew. Indeed, due to the high temperatures reached during operation, the particulate matter is expelled from the funnel while still incandescent, and falls onto the upper decks, leading to the potential risk of the fixtures and furnishings catching fire, as well as causing discomfort and harm to the crew.
WHY USE THIS SERVICE
Ships’ exhaust fumes are a significant source of air pollution.
Sulphur dioxide emissions from burning fuel can damage crops, forests and aquatic species. Eliminating the built-up unburned particulate matter from the internal surfaces of exhaust lines provides benefits to the environment, crew health and the ship itself.
Environmental Protection
We can help minimise environmental pollution and the dispersion of polluting fine particulate matter, as well as guarantee the safety standards of fleets.
Legal Compliance
As of 1 January 2020, new international regulations came into force limiting the emission of sulphur into the atmosphere, establishing a new permissible limit of 0.5% sulphur content for shipping fuel.
Maintenance
Continuous maintenance prevents the formation of significant deposits of unburned particulate matter, ensuring that safety standards are maintained and reducing emissions of fine particulate matter.
Human Health
A clean system is a guarantee of adequate safety conditions in order to protect the health of guests and crew.
The Global
Trading Protocol
Our work is managed through the application of specific procedures, without the need for support and with particularly fast execution times and minimum impact on the day-to-day operations of the vessel.
PROPER SYSTEM MAINTENANCE ALLOWS:
PROPER SYSTEM MAINTENANCE
ALLOWS:
UNINTERRUPTED ACTIVITIES
We work completely independently without interfering with normal on-board activities, including on operational ships.
RESTORATION OF ORIGINAL CONDITIONS
Thanks to the use of the KWD system, we guarantee the recovery of the particulates and any rust removed from the internal surfaces of exhaust gas lines, restoring them to their original condition.
Repairs
We carry out the repair and welding of sections of exhaust lines with rust perforation or sheet metal collapse, combined with coating with special polymers.
MANAGEMENT COST CONTROL
A scheduled maintenance programme will guarantee constant safety standards and conditions over time, avoiding damage to the ship and protecting the health of guests and crew.
REDUCTION IN EXTRAORDINARY EXPENSES
With a planned schedule of work, it is possible to avoid more costly work involving complete replacement of the damaged sections.
The KWD system
Keep Water Diaphragm.
The best solution due to its ease of use and guaranteed liquid tightness demonstrated during type testing.
Solution
The KWD system, thanks to its special features and ease of installation inside the exhaust manifolds, directly at the base of the EGBs, comprises a hermetically sealed diaphragm which guarantees total recovery of the wash liquids deriving from the periodic washing cycle.
All cleaning and disinfection is performed following an inspection by our specialist, certified technicians. Contact us to check the hygiene and performance level of your systems, and book a free initial inspection. We will prepare your personalised prevention and maintenance plan.
